Body mass index, performance on activities of daily living and cognition: analysis in two different populations

Abstract Background With this study, we aim to determine the associations of different categories body mass index (BMI) with activities daily living (ADL) and cognitive performance in two populations community; Colombian South Korean older adults. Methods We performed a cross-sectional analysis surveys separately; The Survey on Health, Well-Being, Aging Colombia (SABE) ( n = 23,343) Longitudinal Study aging (KLoSA) 4556). Participants than 50 years were selected from rural urban areas achieving representative sample. Here investigated association between BMI function using zero-inflated negative binomial regressions, cognition logistic regression models. Results After adjustment, Colombia, underweight was associated an impaired score Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) worse instrumental (IADL). Also, being overweight better MMSE IADL. For both outcomes education level significantly influenced predictions. In Korea, there no significant for cognition, IADL, or basic (BADL). Conclusions population, underweight, reduced functioning. Additionally, but not obese BADL.
